From a 15-Year Sentence to Coaching: Why I Train People, Not Numbers
I want to be straight with you about where I come from, because it is the reason I coach the way I do.
I made several mistakes in my life, and they ended with me serving time on a 15-year prison sentence. I am not going to dress that up. It happened, and I own it.
While I was incarcerated, I found out something about myself. I had a real skill for helping people get physically fit. Guys would ask me how to train, how to eat with what we had, how to stay consistent when everything around you is working against you. I had a drive and a passion to put myself in better shape than I had ever been in what we call the free world. And I found out I could pass that on.
When you train in there, you learn fast what matters. There is no fancy equipment. No supplements. No shortcuts. There is discipline, bodyweight, consistency, and knowing why you are doing what you are doing. That foundation is still at the center of everything I coach today.
I got released five years ago. I started going to gyms, and I got a bad taste in my mouth quick. Corporate gyms saw people as numbers. Sign-ups. Monthly payments. Nobody was giving people what they actually needed to reach their goals. I watched people come in with real hope and leave with nothing, because the business was built on them not showing up.
So I got certified with ISSA as a personal trainer and started building something different. Along the way I found better tools that let me give people real, effective programming, not what corporate gyms and dishonest trainers sell to make money.
That history shapes three things about how I work.
First, honesty. I will never promise you results in a timeline that isn't real. I will never put fake testimonials on my site. When you see results from my clients, they will be real people, because I would rather show you nothing than show you something made up.
Second, structure. I know what it is to have your time controlled by someone else. For busy professionals and parents, your time is controlled by your job, your kids, and a hundred responsibilities. So I build programs that meet your busy schedule, not the other way around. Cardio at the gym or at home, HIIT, strength and conditioning, and a plan that makes sense.
Third, respect for the body. I see taking care of your body as stewardship. You were given one, and discipline is how you respect it. Not punishment. Not guilt. Just showing up for yourself so you can show up for the people who count on you.
My clients want to regain their energy, lose the weight, get stronger, and feel confident enough to step out into the world and say, this is who I really am, not what society says they should be. I know what it takes to rebuild. I did it from the ground up.
If you want to understand how that looks day to day, read my post on why your schedule is not the problem. Then look over my services, and when you are ready, get in touch through the contact page. I will treat you like a person, not a number. That is a promise I can actually keep.
